TGIF:Talk God, It's Friday!
Happy Friday all!
Well, mid-terms are finally over, Fall Break begins this weekend, and I’m all packed and ready to go.
But I couldn’t leave without some spiritual food for thought.
Ecclesiastes 11:9 is one of the scriptures that I often meditate on. It is one of the verses I think about when making some of my important decisions. Well, at least I’d like to think so.
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
There is always that thought that tries to prevail in my mind that because I’m a Christian, that I can’t have fun. Well, this scripture proves that fun is an important factor of life.
First, the text screams at us “Rejoice”. That is so important. To me, it says “Take it easy. Life is too short to be so uptight. Live a little.” That’s great advice, but in remembering the formulas of ancient biblical prophecy, I’m reminded that God never makes a promise or establishes a covenant with someone or a group of people without stipulations or consequences for a breach.
“Know that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” There is always a catch! Before you pick up the brew, you’d better think about it. Will the fun I have now pale in comparison to the judgment that is to come afterward? Will the judgment overshadow this moment? Will I pay for this longer than I’ll enjoy it? If the answer to anyone of these questions is yes, than it’s probably safe to say that shouldn’t proceed with your present course of action.
Will hanging out with your friends damage your relationship with God? Probably not. However, if your friends want you to go clubbin’ with them, then yes. What about watching the game? Going to a movie? Eating a slice of chocolate cake at four in the morning? No. I would think not, but could you be doing something better with your time? Could you spend this time in prayer? It doesn’t matter what anybody else will think. Only you and God.
What condemns me may not necessarily condemn you. So enjoy life. Enjoy your choices, but just rest assured that God will judge you accordingly.
I think that’s enough food for thought. At least for now anyways…
This is where I’ll be this weekend:
Bone Marrow Drive for Jamien Allen, Saturday October 8, 2005 at Shalom Fellowship International. Food, fun, and fellowship, and of course blood! It’s October! Come and see if you could help our brother. If you’re not a match, you’ve donated blood to the Red Cross. For more information, call the church at 313-831-LOVE
I’ll probably be hanging out between my house and campus as well.
JUST FOR FUN!
